JALAL ALWAN a modern artist executes his art in two and three dimensions. The artist thinks that the raw material has the same descriptions as the being it makes, it changes with time as any living being, in contrast to its apparent stability, and also it changes its representations and its ability of expression.
The artist works to bring the material to life and spend its emotional and tragic energy from the roughness of the material and its provocative rawness. The artist treats the material with neutrality so no harm comes to its natural beauty or its identity, he leaves an open choices for wood, Iron, material, stones, lead, leather..etc. to express itself clearly. Jalal Alwan does not finish his works as a spoilt professional, he carries on with his raw material as he need to unite with its beginning, so close to them as to get far from the historic and the futuristic.
When he scratches, engraving, pasting, connecting and cancelling; Jalal does not repeat the natural pictures and panoramas which stored in his memories, he bring back the sadist ritual of the events and its tragic consequences. He may give his worn-out finger tips and wounded hands as they take away the surface roughness, the scratching of a mass equilibrium and smooth the rough material.
His works is a research into the lost self amongst the ashes of lost case, which he find it in one as a collage setting in life panorama and the painting together as they seem living beings just survived from burnt out distraction. The colours of blood, dust, gold and black oil; all played a derisive role in deepening the failures.
His works talks about new fires and coming dilemmas. Hence; it is a dialogue for a civilization which is swallows uniqueness of humans and crushes his being, it gets in all parts of our life to form our choices in clothing and food, it interfered in all our thoughts and the ideology which we believe in or not, so that one looks into the mirror not to find his face, as all our shapes were rubbed off and personalities made to suit itself.
